It had been over a year since Elvis last released a studio album, and manager Colonel Tom Parker was determined to get more product into the stores. Despite Elvis’ horrid shape, Parker arranged for a camera crew to film the show for a planned TV special and live album.

He was visibly ill and was occasionally wheezing, but everything changed as soon as he took a seat at the piano. He launched into a cover of “Unchained Melody,” and sadly, it continues to be considered one of the best renditions of the song of all time.
