When The Poppy Girls Took the Stage with Their Angelic Voices, Their Emotional Performance Had Everyone in Awe—But the Surprise Military Dad Reunion at the End Left the Entire Room in Tears.

Posted on March 11, 2025

This one’s a real tearjerker. The Poppy Girls gave an emotional performance of “The Call” for the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance. They gave a tremendous performance, but viewers loved the special surprise at the end best of all. The girls all have fathers on active service in the British Armed Forces, and you could tell it meant a lot to them to be there singing for their dads. Young Florence and Megan began with angelic voices, before Alice, Charlotte, and Bethany completed the stunning vocal delivery.

The heartfelt performance is almost guaranteed to make your eyes water, with the sweet voices of the girls combining so powerfully with their sincere delivery. The most touching moment came right at the end when Lt Commander Billy Adams made a surprise appearance, and his daughter Megan ran tearfully from the stage into his arms. The pair reunited as the whole crowd applauded, and I’m sure readers can agree the emotion on Megan’s face really said it all.

The Poppy Girls’ rendition of Regina Spektor’s “The Call (No Need To Say Goodbye)” was a hit on YouTube, where it drew 5.4 million views. The performance really made an impact on viewers, who added comments such as “This song alone already makes me cry, but then they throw in the little girl running teary-eyed into her father’s arms. HEAVY” and “Every single time I tell myself I’m not going to cry and every single time I cry so much.”

The Poppy Girls released “The Call” as a charity single for the Royal British Legion, which is a charity that provides assistance to veterans and their families. The group reunited a year after the Festival of Remembrance for a performance of their single that was filmed by BBC One. They certainly have excellent chemistry as a vocal group, and it’s a great arrangement that shows off their harmonies so well.

The Poppy Girls consisted of five schoolgirls from Royal Navy, Army, and Air Force families. Readers might be interested to hear that the lineup was chosen from a pool of 1,000 applicants. The Poppy Girls were founded in 2013 to raise funds for the Royal British Legion and released a one-off single towards that aim. “The Call (No Need To Say Goodbye)” was the lead song on the single, and the group also included “Always and Forever” as a B-side.
