As all dedicated fans of Elvis Presley would agree, nobody can quite match the voice, stage presence, and absolute star power of “The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
That said, the late, great Presley would have been proud to witness all the artists who recently came together to honor him with their own renditions of his music. Just over a month after Presley would have celebrated his 84th birthday, Blake Shelton hosted NBC’s “Elvis All-Star Tribute.”
The live concert featured a star-studded group of performers, including Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, Post Malone, Ed Sheeran, and even the host himself, who gave an awesome performance of one of Presley’s biggest hits.
He knew he couldn’t outshine Presley, but Shelton definitely channeled The King as he sang “Suspicious Minds.” Wearing a black leather jacket reminiscent of the one Presley wore in his “’68 Comeback Special,” Shelton performed on a stage modeled after the one Presley stood on years ago.
Shelton gave the song more of his trademark country twang as he sang the lyrics with backup singers on each side:
“Why can’t you see
What you’re doing to me
When you don’t believe a word I say?”
His audience may not have been swooning quite as much as Presley’s, but listeners clearly loved Shelton’s version of the song. Commenters took to YouTube to congratulate Shelton, telling him he did a great job honoring Presley.
“Blake would never try to emulate Elvis. He liked him as the awesome artist he was!” one person wrote. Another added, “Seriously a fantastic version, great job Blake.”
We couldn’t agree more. Something tells us Presley would be very touched by all the love he still receives from fans and artists alike. Listen to Shelton’s tribute to The King below. Don’t forget to share with all the Presley fans in your life.
