An Emotional Song About Mental Health Has Resonated With Listeners Far And Wide
Jelly Roll shared his powerful hit single, “I Am Not Okay,” with the audience who tuned in to watch the 2024 BBMAs on Thursday (December 12).
The Billboard Music Awards, or BBMAs, honor the top artists, albums, and songs from a given year. As the show’s website states, “Honorees are selected by performance on the Billboard Charts, widely considered to be the ultimate authority in the music industry.”
Jelly Roll received three BBMA nominations this year (2024) and won one. He took home the trophy for Top Hard Rock Song for his “All My Life” collaboration with Falling In Reverse.
The win further proves Jelly Roll’s versatility and ability to cross genres. While he won in a Rock category at the BBMAs, he experienced great success in country music this year.
Much of his success can be attributed to his emotional single “I Am Not Okay.” The song, which Jelly Roll released in June, focuses on the importance of looking after one’s mental health.
“I Am Not Okay” resonated with listeners far and wide. The song reached the #1 spot on both the Country Airplay and Mediabase charts and received Platinum certification from the RIAA. It also earned a Grammy nomination for Best Country Song.

Jelly Roll delivered two performances at the BBMAs, singing “Liar” and “I Am Not Okay.”
Before he took to the stage, Jelly Roll walked past the crowd and high-fived some of his fans. He then made his way to his wife, Bunnie Xo, and they kissed while the crowd cheered.
The audience held their phones up in the air and turned their flashlights on, creating a beautiful glow. They could be heard singing along as soon as Jelly Roll started the song, and he held his microphone out to them so they could be heard loud and clear.
For his part, Jelly Roll delivered a moving and passionate performance. He sang under a structure made to resemble the frame of a house covered in flames.
His performance struck a chord with those who watched it at home. Some of the comments on the official YouTube video were:
“This man was sent by God to change the life of many people and to bring a message!!!!”
“This song, like many songs by Jelly, speaks volumes to my soul.”
“Is it normal for your head to tingle while listening to a song? I haven’t had that happen in 20 years.”
“This man has just been on a roll and just an inspiration to many and continues to be..”
