‘Yellowstone’ Fans Divided Over New Spin-Off Starring Kelly Reilly & Cole Hauser

Fans React To Yellowstone New Spin-Off

It appears that season five will not be the final chapter for Yellowstone.

Deadline has confirmed a spin-off series featuring Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. Since the series’ conclusion was announced, there have been ongoing rumors about a potential Season 6 of Yellowstone or additional spin-off projects.

Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler, sat down with Fox News Digital in September to share his desire to continue in the Yellowstone universe. During his interview, he said:

“Would I like a spinoff? Yeah. It’s been a pleasure working with this cast, with Taylor Sheridan; why would we stop a good thing? Yeah, pen it and let’s do it.”

It looks like he got his wish, and fans will get more of the beloved Rip Wheeler.

Fans Reaction To The Spin-Off

Fans have mixed feelings about the show’s spin-off following the performance of Yellowstone this season.

Some fans are excited about the continuation of their favorite show, while others feel disappointed by John Dutton’s death. The patriarch, portrayed by Kevin Costner, announced on June 20, 2024, that he would not be continuing on the show. Since his departure, the writing team has had to make significant changes.

The changes have not been widely accepted, which made this season of Yellowstone the lowest rated yet.

Deadline announced the spin-off on X saying:

“The upcoming Season 5 finale of ‘Yellowstone’ will not be the end of the Dutton clan’s story. Series standouts Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have closed deals to lead a spinoff series, reprising their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, respectively, sources tell Deadline. The spinoff will likely feature other cast members from the mothership series alongside Reilly and Hauser.”

Here is what some fans said in response:

“WOO HOO !! Merry Christmas to me.”

“I stopped watching. The first two episodes lacked meaning.”

“If this is happening, I hope the showrunners do better by the audience.”

“Awesome. Rip is great and Beth is insane(ly great).”

“They’re the best part of the show, so I’m on board.”

The fan reaction is clearly mixed. Some fans are excited, while others feel less enthusiastic about the show’s return. Regardless of opinions, the new spin-off will allow the characters to resolve their storylines, as the season finale may not have enough time to explore them fully.

The season finale airs this weekend, December 15th at 8/7c.
