Former My Chemical Romance drummer Bob Bryar dies aged 44

Bob Bryar, former drummer of My Chemical Romance, has reportedly been found dead at the age of 44 in his home in Tennessee.

Bryar had been the band’s drummer between 2004 and 2010, and in 2014 he announced that he would be quitting music altogether, though the following year he expressed an interest in returning.

TMZ reports that the 44-year-old was last seen on 4 November and that he was found dead in his home this Tuesday (26 November).

His final social media activity was on 5 November.

The report adds that they’ve been told foul play is not suspected as any weapons or musical equipment in the house are untouched, and that animal control visited the property to recover two dogs from the home.

Bryar’s body was described in the report as ‘badly decomposed’, with a medical examiner now set to investigate the cause of death and determine what exactly happened to the former My Chemical Romance man.

While the band is set to go on tour again next year, Bryar was not set to return alongside them.

When he left My Chemical Romance in 2010 his departure was described as ‘painful’, as the band released a statement: “As of 4 weeks ago, My Chemical Romance and Bob Bryar parted ways.

“This was a painful decision for all of us to make and was not taken lightly, we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours and expect you all to do the same.”

In the following years, he did promote the reissue of the album The Black Parade, and in 2021 declared that he had retired from drumming due to issues with his wrist.

Since the report of his death, My Chemical Romance fans have been talking about him on social media and expressing surprise at his passing, a devastated fan said they were ‘so sad about it’, while others tweeted ‘WHAT THE F**K’ in astonishment at the news.

Others highlighted the things Bryar had said and done during his life, sharing some of the comments the drummer had posted online.

For some My Chemical Romance fans this was the first they were hearing of what Bryar had said since leaving the band, adding that they were ‘experiencing complicated emotions right now’ as they reconciled word of his death with learning more about him as a person.

There were also people saying that they ‘hope the other members are okay’ in the wake of the news.
